Chocolate Birthday Cake recipe

Ingredients:
Chocolate Cake:
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
3 large eggs, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
1/2 cup hot water
Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:
1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup heavy cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Cream Butter and Sugar:
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
4. Combine Ingredients:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
5. Bake:
Divide the batter evenly between the cake pans.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
6. Prepare the Frosting:
In a large bowl, beat butter until creamy.
Gradually add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat until smooth and fluffy.
7. Assemble and Decorate:
Spread frosting over one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides evenly.
Decorate with sprinkles, chocolate shavings, or birthday candles!
