Ingredients:
1 lb squid, cleaned and cut into rings
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 large egg, beaten
Vegetable oil (for frying)
Lemon wedges (for serving)
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
Prep the Calamari: Rinse the squid rings under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
Coat the Calamari: In a bowl, mix the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper. In a separate bowl, beat the egg.
Dredge the Squid: Dip each calamari ring into the beaten egg, then coat it in the flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour.
Heat the Oil: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Fry the Calamari: Fry the calamari in batches for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan.
Drain and Serve: Remove the calamari with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve with lemon wedges and garnish with fresh parsley.
